Meyer M42 lenses

Meyer was a German optical company, founded by Hugo Meyer (born 21.05.1863, died 01.03.1905) in Görlitz.

In 1918 Dr. Paul Rudolph, the inventor of Zeiss' Tessar and Protar, developed Meyer's Double Plasmat which was derived from Meyer's symmetrical Euryplan lens. In the 1920s he developed fast variants, the Kino-Plasmat f/2 and the World's fastest lens of its time, the Kino-Plasmat f/1.5 .

After WWII Meyer was the second East German lens supplier after Carl Zeiss Jena. It became a part of VEB Pentacon and after some point, all the Meyer lenses were renamed Pentacon.

Meyer Domiplan 50mm F2.8

Some love it, some hate it! Often called the ugly duckling due to some copies which are really bad.

This was a cheap lens and build quality was mediocre. An all-plastic body with loose aperture and focus movement.

Our copy is the "Zebra" one and one of the better ones. In fact, no complaints on this one - it is sharp wide open with good colour rendition and we could not detect any chroma, even when shot wide open.

Meyer Oreston 50mm F1.8

A very good all-round performer. A well built all-metal lens with smooth aperture and focus movements.

It is sharp wide open with good colour rendition and we could not detect any chroma, even wide open.

Our copy is in the popular "Zebra" design.

A great and a very sought-after portrait lens. Very well built and all-metal with smooth aperture and focus movemements.

It is sharp wide open with excellent colour reproduction and we could not detect any chroma. Great Bokeh.

They are really hard to come by these days. Our's is in the popular "Zebra" design.

Meyer Orestegor 200mm F4

A heavy all-metal lens and built like a tank. Very smooth aperture and focus movements and the overall impression is quality.

This lens is sharp wide open and the colour reproduction is good. No chroma could be detected.

They are really becoming scarce now. Our copy is in the popular "Zebra" design.

Meyer Telemegor 300mm F4.5

A very heavy all-metal lens. Very well built with buttery smooth aperture and focus movements.

Unfortunately, like an idiot, I sold mine before I could even test it properly. They are very scarce now.

Meyer Telemegor 400mm F5.5

WOW - one needs a wheelbarrow for this lens! A very heavy all-metal lens built like a tank. Impossible to shoot with this lens without being on a decent heavy-duty tripod.

Very smooth aperture and focus movement and the overall impression is absolute quality.

Very difficult to work with under normal circumstances, but the results are good and this lens is sharp wide open.

They have become very rare now.
