Makinon lenses were manufactured by Makina Optical Co. Ltd, Japan, and their reputation is not stellar. However, the word "competent" comes to mind, and I have no doubt that excellent examples can be found.

One nice thing about a lens maker like Makina on the used market is that their brand name cachet (they haven't any) did not work to run up the price. Thus one mignt end up with a good lens for peanuts.

A good quality Japanese lens, which is quite sharp even wide open. Chroma is also very well controlled which points to good quality glass and construction. We were quite surprised with this lens - Makinon has not been one of the more well known manufacturers, but typically Japanese this lens is a good performer. Very well built and it is metal all-round and built to last a lifetime. The copy we have is absolutely in mint condition in it's original box.
